The author's experience as a volunteer following the devastating effects of Typhoon Yolanda on Tacloban has inspired this gripping tale of tragedy, love and desperation. A stunning debut! – Peter Lock

This is a thrilling read, inspired by the author's experiences gained when she was a volunteer after the typhoon hit. A must read novel from this exciting new author. It is November 2013 and Typhoon Yolanda, the strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded, has just struck Tacloban in the Philippines. A local family is caught up in the devastating aftermath and has to fight for survival. One of the surviving daughters, 11 year old Lika Faye, is abducted by child traffickers and dragged into the sleazy world of webcam sex and worse. Will her family be able to save the child from a terrible end? – Marc Moss

In the aftermath of the fiercest typhoon on record to hit land, banners bearing the words Tindog Tacloban started to appear all over the city. Meaning Rise Up Tacloban, they were a testament to the determination and resilience of the Filipino people as they tried to rebuild their shattered lives.
For many, things would never be the same
Izel Sombilon watched in horror as two of his children were ripped from his arms and swept away by the huge storm waves
Eleven year old Lika Faye was plunged into the sordid underworld of Webcam Child Sex Tourism.
For Helen Gable volunteering in the typhoon ravaged area was a chance for her to come to terms with her own personal tragedy.

Wow, I'm so grateful I found this book! It was very-well written and kept your interest from the beginning but probably more so mine that others because I spend 7 months in the Tacloban area in 2014 do humanitarian work after Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). Usually in books you have to use your imagination about the scenes and places the author describes but because I had been to almost all the places and seen the destruction and all it was like returning there again.

But what was most interesting was the story line. When I started to read the book I figured it was a story about the storm. I had NO idea it dealt with child trafficking. When in the Philippines I met a volunteer in Cebu who had sent me pictures of street children living under bridges and such. My heart reached out to them and I decided I wanted to try and open a home to street children. She told me it would be very difficult because many of these children for victims of child trafficking and that the police and government officials were involved with it. I found that hard to believe but this story backs her story. So sad. So in the book Helen opens up a home to girls rescued from child trafficking. I want to do that!

Anyway I REALLY hoping the author reads this review and will contact me at 13bdm13@gmail.com because her link to her page doesn't work and I'd really like to talk to her. I am passionate about getting involved in child trafficking in some way but need guidance and direction.

Tindog Tacloban Rise Up Tacloban eBook Claire Morley Reviews

"Izel realised their only hope was to try and stay afloat in the foul water swirling beneath him. He could feel the debris twisting and turning in the sea water as it eddied around his legs. Adrenaline kicked in and his only thought was how to save his family.
‘Grab my neck,’ he screamed to Lika Faye, hoping she could hear the words before they were swallowed by the howling winds."

Tindog Tacloban is a gripping debut novel about the effects of Typhoon Yolanda on one family, especially their daughter.

When Typhoon Yolanda hits land in Tacloban, the Sombilon family are ill-prepared. As the wind grows stronger, Izel Sombilon, the head of a household of seven which includes his parents, his wife and their three children, realises they must reach higher ground, and quickly. But when the black water crashes through their home, he loses sight of eleven year old Lika Faye and five year old Ellijah. Are they gone from him forever, or might they have somehow survived?

As they search amongst the remains of Tacloban, a neighbour tells him she thinks she may have seen Lika Faye, though she isn’t certain. Will a chance sighting be enough to sustain Izel’s search for her? His wife, Adelaida, would rather they put the disaster behind them so they can gather enough strength to rebuild. After losing their home and being without food or water, they need all they can muster just to keep going.

Meanwhile, back in England, Helen Gable decides to volunteer with World Disaster Response in the Philippines. When her group of volunteers meet Izel at a local school where he is helping to provide hot meals to children, they decide to take him on as a driver. They need help and Izel needs work. Helen learns that Izel’s daughter, Lika Faye, is still missing. Still recovering from the loss of her own son, Charlie, some months before, Helen can’t help but feel an affinity with Izel. But is Lika Faye still alive, and if she is, will they be able to help find her amongst so many missing and dead?

Tindog Tacloban is a powerful story which resonates far beyond its pages. It should be read and understood as much for its hopeful message of survival in the face of adversity as for what you will learn about the conditions of life in disaster zones and human trafficking. Morley crafts her story with skill and care, and her lifelike characters bounce off the pages in their need to be heard. This is an unforgettable story which will stay with me for a very long time.
if this isn't movie material I don't know what is!!!
Really enjoyed this book. A real eye opener. Well written and draws you in to the plight of these people. Well done Clare Morley!
Tindog Tacloban by Claire Morley is an exposé of how human trafficking has alarmingly expanded to young and vulnerable impoverished children in the midst of a natural disaster. The book does not only hit home the grim reality of child sex tourism in the Philippines but also of how endemic corruption is in government. Images came to mind again of the days when I waited in anguish to hear from my family, cut off from the world, as the strongest typhoon on record made its first landfall in my hometown. A wake up call for those who strongly feel of the exploitation of the underprivileged sector of a society. Don’t miss reading this thought provoking story. Leah Salazar-Dunlop
